Diane, my friend and downline, was at my class this week. We used the swirly candy piece from "Sweets for the Sweet" on a card and she said it reminded her of Christmas candy (this in between she and my mom being so cynical about the use of the word "sweet" that I was dying laughing). I knew exactly what she meant (about the candy) and wanted to try it on my next card. :)

CPS 200: 3 Birds

I loved this week's sketch from  CPS and haven't done one in soooo long, so I dusted off one of my favorite stamp sets and whipped this up pretty quickly.

Sparkly Cupcake

I LOVE chipboard. SU! totally revamped their product line of theirs, called "On Board" this past catalog. The Mix & Match set was one of the first things I bought. I'm going to have a "Product Spotlight" series of classes, all focusing on various products in the catalog. The first one will be the On Board chipboard- on the 21st. The evite will go out today.

This card is not one we'll make in the class, but since you get to take home the entire Mix & Match set as part of your class fee, you could make this yourself!

I covered the "frosting" with Whisper White craft ink, applied Heat & Stick Powder, and covered with Dazzling Diamonds glitter. I used Versamark, Heat & Stick and gold Fine Galaxy glitter for the flame. The base of the cupcake was covered with paper from the Build a Bear II DSP. I think that is my favorite DSP in the whole catalog! The sentiment, from Word Play, was stamped on the 1/2 of a Top Note die. All paper is from the Build a Bear DSP.

Birthday Candles- CPS 185

My sweet little Christian turns 3 on Tuesday. I don't always make my kids cards for the birthdays, but I thought he would get a kick out of the sparkly candles.

For the candles, I stamped them, then colored in the flames with a Versamarker and added Heat & Stick powder and fine gold glitter. For the circles, I used the 2 1/2 circle punch and a 2" circle was cut with the Circle Scissors Plus. The sentiment was punched with the modern label punch, but I cut off the ends and corner rounded one edge and punched one slot from the Double Rectangle punch (retired).

CPS Sketch #184

 

I finally broke out the line of pearls in the Basic Pearls kit. I was slightly hoarding them (there are 3 in a package) but then realized that if I never used them, I was really wasting my money. Plus, since the whole package is less than 5 bucks, they aren't really an overly expensive embellishment and they add so much! I cut them in half and put a bigger pearl on each side- then cut my sentiment strip so it would fit right inside.

I'm all about texture lately. I embossed the Rose Red layer with one of Texture Plates. I love how it is definitely noticeable, but more subtle than the embossing folders (which I also love!). I scored lines across the top and bottom to help anchor the Rose Red strip, too.

Awash with Flowers is such a beautiful stamp set and has so many possibilities. I used my Color Coach to help me decide on a color scheme. That thing ROCKS!

Permanent Mask Azul Flower- CPS Sketch 183

Here's my take on CPS Sketch 183!

When SU! sent all demos a copy of their Spanish catalog- Celebrando Creatividad- I was in love with a lot of the stamps. Most of them are versions of the English ones- which you can also find the item #s for in the main catalog (some are also available in French). But, there are a few that are not in our catalog- like the set I used here: "Flores Suaves". GOR-JUS. It has this flower, a butterfly, a bee, and the script background stamp that I also used. I had to have it!! Here's a link to the Spanish Catalog:

This technique is called "Permanent Mask". I stamped the flower in Early Espresso ink, then covered the entire image with Crystal Effects. It took about 30 minutes to dry completely (I am NOT a patient person). I then sponged on some ink: Pacific Point, Night of Navy, Not Quite Navy, and Sahara Sand. Next, I stamped the script background with Early Espresso, stamping off once. I wanted it to have a little sparkle so I sprayed the entire image with Gold Glow Smooch Spritz (click on the closeup picture to see it better). I stamped the words from the Fabulous Phrases stamp set and spritzed those with the Smooch, too. I cut the striped grosgrain Night of Navy ribbon in half. This makes the edge fray- but I loved the way it looked. To "bling" it up a little more, I added the self-adhesive pearls (LUV THOSE!). The patterned paper is from the Blueberry Crisp DSP.
